While we’re still awaiting to get Tango OS on our Windows Phone, which is a next iteration of Mango branch, Microsoft has already begun the testing of Windows Phone 8 aka Apollo OS. The users are biting their nails in anticipation of Tango OS, especially when it was sported on HTC Triumph and believed to be powering Lumia 610. The Tango OS will be relatively a smaller firmware update whereas Apollo will put WP in competition with Android and iOS device.

Microsoft has not holding back either. The real smart person has installed I‘m a WP7! app and mistakenly (?) spill the beans. The device seemed to be running on never seen before 8.0.9662.0 firmware version, which clearly indicates WP8. Indescribably the OS has not caught on WP7 Bench where it is more likely to appear. The so called unintentional leaks tie in with rumors that Microsoft has officially begun the internal testing.

There is no other information available. The rumors says that the internal testing or dogfooding had begun from March 30th itself. It would be interesting to know more information about the so called device like hardware information. WP8 will sport higher version of hardware to give a iOS and Android a real fight. It would be last nail in the coffin when Nokia and Microsoft together announced the new OS and fresh batch of handsets.

Update: The developer says that it was running on a WP8 emulator which clearly suggests that Microsoft could be cross verifying app comp ability.

Hell! We’re getting pretty excited.
