Last week, Jaxbot – prominent hacker and genius behind tools like Themes for WP7 and Folders for WP, had tweeted about giving a hint on his upcoming project. He went one step ahead and asked people to hold back for a while instead of buying chevronWP7 tokens to unlock Windows Phone. Of course, it created lots of stir among the developers, and few of them went belting him on twitter.

Jaxbot was anxiously waiting to unveil his project ‘WindowBreak’, and today is the day when he officially announced it on XDA forum and twitter. As the name suggest this is a first ever free Windows Phone jailbreak method that will let you jailbreak Samsung devices for free.

From the dedicated page of WindowsBreak,

WindowBreak is a project with the goal of enabling true jailbreaking on Windows Phones.

We believe in freedom, both in gratis and in liber.

However, he refrains from calling it as a full fledged jailbreak. This is just interop unlock, but not a full unlock. For those who would like to get full unlock on their device can try Deepshining ROM, DFT ROM or NextGen+ custom ROM on their device.

Windows Phone Jailbreak works for Samsung devices only, as of writing this article.  All you need to do is to open up this website on your Samsung Windows Phone and press ‘WindowsBreak Me->’  button. This sounds similar to JailbreakMe, a browser based exploit that uploads the PDF file on iOS device and jailbreaks it.

WindowBreak works in almost similar fashion, where it adds certain file on Windows Phone to jailbreak it. This hack works the same way how Heathcliff74’s interop unlock work. The whole jailbreak hack is processed through the website, which has been designed pretty ingeniously.

Unfortunately, Nokia and HTC owners would have to wait before getting their hands on this tool. Both devices block registry entries in provisioning files, making it difficult to get hands on Interop entries. This puts chevronWP7 out of equation for Samsung users. You do not need to spend $9 to buy tokens.

Though, Microsoft managed to hire chevronWP7 developers, they are not likely to support this tool. Of course, any modification made to your Windows Phone would put your device in danger of loosing warranty, but freedom comes at a cost..right?

What are you waiting for then? Go ahead and jailbreak your Windows Phone using free WindowBreak jailbreak tool.
