How to Capture Screenshots on Windows Phone Mango

Homebrew October 25th, 2011 / 6 Comments

Unlike iPhone, Microsoft has not facilitate an in-built option to capture the screenshots of apps and games on Windows Phone. People (mostly power users and tech bloggers like us) were expecting to get a decent screenshot feature when Microsoft released Mango OS to public, earlier last month. However, it never happened.  Although, as a normal user you would not bother much about such feature, but it is of great help when you want to showcase some of the apps and games to your friends.

Apple did integrate this feature long back and now even Google released an in-built screenshot capture facility with Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Windows Phone power users do not have to feel shy about their OS as Microsoft has integrated 500 new feature in the new OS. Talking about the screenshot capture facility, then we have XDA forum member who has just released an app that let you take a great screenshots on Windows Phone Mango.

The application itself is called as ‘Screen Capturer’, enabling you to take screenshots using your camera button. Users can manage all the screenshots from the application itself. This application does have few limitations like it saves files to temporary file instead of picture hub, game and movies are not supported yet.

Windows Phone Tango and Apollo with Different Resolution [Rumor]

Rumors October 22nd, 2011 / 1 Comment

Windows Phone, Microsoft’s only hope to survive in smartphone arena, is touted by many as the real deal, and will be the only competitor of iPhone in near future. Although, Windows Phone devices come with different screen-size, but all of them are on same resolution- 480×800. Windows Phone Mango devices run on almost same hardware and screen resolution, but arrival of Tango and Apollo may change the equation.

In the past, we covered a news on Tango, which is also dubbed as small update to Mango, will target Asian country people. In plain English, we can expect a small resolution and cheaper Windows Phone dubbed as Tango, specifically designed to keep in Asian country users. Microsoft has already showcased their intention to provide cheaper Windows Phone. If we assume/understand this right, then Nokia could be the OEM to provide cheaper Windows phone in Asian market, as Nokia is still doing good in this part of the world.

MS Nerd has has tweeted providing an interesting tidbits about upcoming Windows Phone devices.

Perfect timing for new #tips : Mango added FFcam, Scorpio, Gyro as chassis 1.5, Tango to add 480×320 chassis 2, Apollo 1280×720 chassis 3.

…developing… #tips : Tango adding LTE, but dual-core will come with Apollo. Tegra & OMAP are targeted for #Win9. 3 new posts brewing.

  • Chassis 1.5 Mango – FFcam, Scorpio, Gyro
  • Chassis 2 Tango – 480×320 Chassis
  • Chassis 3 Apollo- 1280×720

For smaller resolution devices, one can assume to have physical QWERTY keyboard, and trimmed down hardware. Tango will be a perfect device to compete those low cost Android devices. On the other hand Apollo devices are expected to bring HD capability, front facing camera, better video calling (tango feature), dual core processor, LTE network support and much more to w handsets.

Microsoft will be competing real hard with Apple and Android devices after the arrival of Apollo.

HTC Titan Full Specs, Features and Short Review

News October 4th, 2011 / No Comments

HTC’s much anticipated Windows Phone HTC Titan has been unveiled earlier last month. Unfortunately, we couldn’t cover the news at that time. Better late than never. HTC Titan, which appeared on several stats site, has always blown our minds as it was claimed to have largest screen. Well, those speculations were not wrong.

HTC Titan sporting 4.7” SLCD screen, which makes you feel like you’re having a beast in your hand. Titan is unlike anything you’ve ever held in your palm. However, at some point of time you might feel that it lacks the essential features, which is now commonly available in many android phones, like HDMI out, microSD card slot, 1080 full HD video recording capability and more.

htc-titan-specs

Running on 1.5 GHz processor, Titan is powered by Windows Phone Mango OS, which has been rolled out to the world last week. If you’ve not got the Mango OS on your device, then our tutorials section will guide you on how to force Zune to get Mango update. Let us have a glance at the feature of HTC Titan before we move on further criticizing the bad and praising the good side of the device.

HTC Titan Specs and Features

  • 1.5 GHz Processor
  • Powered by windows Phone Mango OS
  • 4.7” SLCD screen with Ambient light sensor
  • 480×800 resolution
  • 16GB internal memory
  • 512MB RAM
  • 8MP rear camera with dual LED flash, and BSI sensor
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • Internal GPS antenna
  • Bing Maps
  • Gyro sensor
  • G-Sensor
  • Digital compass
  • Proximity sensor
  • Ambient light sensor
  • HSPA/WCDMA 2100 MHz
  • 3G, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi support
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Twitter, Facebook and  Windows Live social integration

HTC Titan, like new models comes with unibody aluminium design, which gives it an upper hand over other competitors, where sturdiness matters the most. However, you may feel that there is nothing new in design. It looks more like some of the previous models of HTC.

This is an era of dual-core processor. We have already seen many powerful android handsets running on dual-core processor, so you may not be inclined to stick to HTC’s 1.5GHz single core processor. In short future, you may feel that your processor is not powerful enough compared to other mobile devices.

HTC Titan is a first kind of Windows Phone , which sports 1.3 MP front-facing camera, which may be justified soon when Tango is released. It will help you to make video or conference calls using the front-facing camera. Although, the main camera has 8MP camera, it lacks recording 1080p videos (which should not be of much problem to normal people).

FM radio, 1080p video recording, microSD card slot are missing from the device. The only advantage HTC Titan possesses is that it runs on Mango right out of the box, but it shouldn’t tempt many of us to try it out since Mango will be eventually rolled out to all by the end of this month. No one will be left behind.
