Nokia Lumia 800 windows Phone users seems to be the first batch of handsets to receive the Windows Phone 7.8 final update. For those, who are unaware this will be the last major update for WP7.5 users. After this update, they are not expected to receive any major update from the Microsoft. This indirectly means that your Lumia 800 is rendered useless or outdated within a short span of a year.
Not to forget that Microsoft did mention its intention to roll out Windows Phone 7.8 update, which will ultimately bring the Windows Phone 8 like start screen along with some minor changes. However, Nokia seems to be the first company to roll out the update. There is no sign of update on my HTC Mozart 7. Apparently, like previous update even this one seems to be the series of updates.
Some people have started receiving the update on their device. Probably, this is the right time you fire Zune on your desktop to check out the update. In a technical term, this is not a big update either. The biggest change is resizable live tiles, which was one of the most demanding feature. Apart from that, there are some performance improvements. In case, if you are plugging your device first time and have installed chevronWP7 unlock, then you are in a dire situation. It will no longer on your device. It probably is not working on your device since long time, as it was discontinued long back.
Before moving ahead with updating your device, make sure you charge your mobile battery to its full capacity. Take a backup of your device music and video files or sync it with Zune. To check the update, simply connect your device to connecter and plugin that in to computer. Fire up Zune on your Windows or Mac PC. Go to settings and update section under it. It will check for any update and inform you about that.
Don’t be surprised if you do not find any update. It probably means that it is still into available in your region. Nokia will gradually roll out in all the regions. There is also a trick to force update your device, but it doesn’t seem to work on my side. It did work in the past, so I firmly believe that it may work for some other people. So there is no harm in trying out force update on Windows Phone to update your Nokia Lumia 800 to WP 7.8. In case, if you are a patient type person, then you should wait for Nokia to roll out the Windows Phone 7.8 update for Lumia 800 in your region.
