Jaxbot, a popular homebrew developer of Windows Phone community, has finally released lock widget for the public consumption. Earlier, this month he had provided a sneak peak of his recent feat in homebrew front. Last week, he had gone ahead and provided a beta release to ebullient users of homebrew community.
Those who are unaware of lock widget, it is an app for fully rooted Windows Phone which adds widgets to the lock screen of the WP. The app works only on rooted handsets hence developer unlocked users would have to pass this app until he finds some solution. Lock Widget adds small tiles on the lock screen and provides up to date information based on the functionality of the widget. Following widgets are supported for now,
Lock Screen Widgets
- Weather widget
- RSS widget
- Twitter @user widget
- Memory widget
- Puts widget on your lock scree
- Daily Bing wallpaper
- Custom background
Adding widgets to lock screen will put it in race with Android handsets. However, community would really like to see it to available to the all users instead to the small group of tech savvy users. It will serve you latest tweets, weather information and much more. Currently, the possibilities are limited but we can expect more widgets to be available in near future. In coincides nicely with WP7 Root Tools which was released couple of days back. Root Tools suite accommodates more devices in the newer version. You either need rooted Windows Phone with custom ROM or device with WP7 Root Tools installed.
