Gone are the days when Nokia Lumia users had no privilege to see what’s in homebrew store for them. Yesterday, we informed our users how Nokia fortuitously shipped Qualcomm unlocked bootloader to some Lumia series handset. It was tad easy for those owners to flash their device to facilitate Interop unlock on their handset. However, most of the users were left in agony until today. While Windows Phone homebrew community is still very adolescent, such development will only increase affection towards the other side of the community.

As we mentioned earlier, those who used Nokia Connection Suite to update their handsets had no luck to unlock their Lumia series handset as it was automatically updated to Nokia DLOAD bootloader. The new discovery will let Lumia 710 users to downgrade bootloader to Qualcomm. Developers over XDA forum have also answered some questions regarding Lumia 710 unlock possibility.

The most important question is, ‘who is eligible to downgrade bootloader?’

Devices with hardware revision 2.3 with firmware version 11141 or below are only eligible for interop unlock.

How to check whether you device is eligible or not?

• Turn off your phone
• Press and Hold Volume+ Power button until you notice a short vibration
• Plugin your device to PC using USB cable

If your device is turned up in USB Mass Storage Mode then you’ve an unlocked bootloader.

Say no to format disk on Windows PC.

G-gabber has found a signed unlocked Qualcomm ROM for Nokia Lumia 710. Users can download it and downgrade Lumia 710 using Nokia Connection Suite. The bootloader doesn’t work for Lumia 800.

Remember all the operations have been performed in Linux system.

Follow this XDA thread for full tutorial. We’re stating important steps here. Detailed guide or how to flash Lumia 710 and 800 tutorial can be found at XDA thread. This tutorial should be followed who are technically versed. Also make sure to backup NAND and full device before attempting it.

How to Unlock Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 on Qualcomm Bootloader

Step 1: Use ‘dd’ in Linux. Windows version can be also found here

Step 2: Download custom ROM for Lumia 800 or 710 from XDA thread. Remember this is Interop unlock only. Full unlock is not available for Lumia series handsets yet. It is always advisable to backup NAND before attempting this.

Step 3: Navigate to following location in Linux distribution

dd if=./os-new.nb of=/dev/sdX9

Where X is the disk detected by your Linux distribution.

Step 4:Now you need to hard reset your phone

• Hold Power button for around 10 second to exit from Qualcomm’s disk mode
• Press and Hold Power+Volume Down+Camera button until you feel your phone vibrate
• Release Power button while keep holding Volume Down+Camera button for five second or more

This will ultimately trigger hard reset. That’s it! Your Lumia 710 or  800 has been flashed with custom ROM.
